2015 Pasadena Cheeseburger Week – Review

By Los Angeles Digest Staff on January 17th, 2015 | Culture

An annual tradition in Pasadena, the city held its Cheeseburger Week.  Every year, participating restaurants around the city compete for the peoples vote in the Cheeseburger Challenge.  Such include – favorite lunch counter burger, favorite turkey burger, best beverage with a burger, among others.  For this year, almost 40 restaurants are due to participate in Cheeseburger Week.

Meat District Company

An untypical decor inside Meat District Company.  You may feel like you’re inside a real kitchen.  The menus, presentation plates, and the dinner check plates all reminiscent of a butcher knife.

For burgers, the Sliders Flight comes with three mini burgers (regular, breaded chicken, and lamb) on charcoal brioche.  Or for the bigger appetite, we recommend the Brie Burger.  The Brie comes with double cream brie, cranberry sauce, fennel, radish, argula and all topped with horseradish sauce.  And don’t forget to add truffle fries.  Definitely ask about their garlic aioli sauce – a knockout with the fries.

Dog Haus Biergarten

Started in 2010 in Pasadena, Dog Haus Biergarten began as a gourmet concept offering skinless Haus Dogs, Haus sausages, and all-natural Black Angus beef burgers.  Today, their locations span across several states including California, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah.

DHB combines the atmosphere of a sports bar and a sit-down restaurant along with an outdoor patio to allow patrons to enjoy an inexpensive meal along with many choices in alcohol.  DHB has been featured on television channels including KCAL and KTLA and every year, they hold their annual Slider Eating Competition in conjunction with the city’s cheeseburger Week.

For the tried and true fanatics of hot dogs, we recommend several choices.  The Downtown Dog – smoked bacon wrapped dog with caramelized onions, bell peppers and topped with mayo, mustard and ketchup is the perfect option for bacon lovers.  The Little Leaguer – 1/4 pound all-beef hot dog with Haus Chili, Fritos, diced onions, and shredded cheese is a kicker for the person who enjoy Fritos.  Lastly, for the healthy-conscious, we really favored the Veggie Smoked Apple Dog, one taste and even we cannot tell it was meatless.

Kings Row Gastropub

Located in original architecture, Kings Row Gastropub is a casual diner with the likes of a fun atmosphere – patio bar, dining room, and a beer garden.  The added entertainment of arcade machines, sports television, and a wide-angled shuffleboard table tailors to who enjoys Sundays as well.

Within this gastropub atmosphere, we recommend the sliders to go along with the mac and cheese which features irish cheddar and bread crumb gratin.  And don’t forget – they also offer burrata with baguette, tomatoes and balsamic & olive oil.  And for the diehard customer of gastropubs, you cannot go wrong with the Fish and Chips.  Tried and true – beer battered cod plus lemon and tartar sauce with fries or salad.
