Las Vegas – Part II – A Weekend Feature with Audien and Dada Life

By Carlin Nguyen on October 20th, 2015 | Culture, Music

As Summer passes on and the season of Fall takes over, the night life in Las Vegas is a never ending tyrant of energy as the saying goes – “the city where it doesn’t sleep.”  As no one can agree more as you can make your fortunes here or lose it all in one quick swing.  We took another outing to Las Vegas and checked out several acts.

Saturday afternoon / Audien – The 23-year prodigy from Connecticut emerged as an up-and-coming producer in the electr-house music genre, Nathan Rathbun and several of his close friends [at an early age around 16] decided on “Audien” as his stage name.  As Nathan told us, the name didn’t really mean much and liked it more than his real name.

His latest single – “Something Better” – along with Lady Antebellum was a long-dream coming for Nathan.  He felt that the American country group from Tennessee was a perfect fit as he had an idea to do a a dance track and combine the instrumentals and the music toplines with work from the country group and go from there.  All in all, the production took about six months and another several months for the song to be ready for final release to the public.  Not to also mention the concurrent work to finish his EP – Daydreams.

Currently – Audien is working on several collabs including ones with Arty and another “big vocalist” in the works.  Some of his dream collabs was and is Arty.  He would also love to work with R&B superstar, Drake.  Audien was a big fan [“Trance head”] of Armin Van Buuren in the early days including studio albums such as Image and Mirage.  Audien describes his sound more as “melodic and full of energy”.

Audien played a full crowd at Marquee’s Dayclub on Saturday afternoon just a tad past 3pm.  As usual, he paced the crowds through his 90-min plus set.  The Marquee Dayclub & Nightclub is a combined 60,000+ square feet – this features a rooftop patio overlooking Las Vegas Blvd.

Saturday night / DJ Eric D-Lux – The Tao Nightclub at the Venetian Hotel has been around for more than 10 years.  Back in the day, the venue was considered a top-tier venue during the days of House Trance and has been to this day.  The decor inside the venue is mainstream Asian-infused throughout the main floor.  Rather the venue is shaped like a open concept with dance floor, outdoor patio and bottle service all in one floor.

The headliner DJ, Eric D-Lux, is a residental DJ on Los Angeles’ Power 106 as well running the underground scene at clubs all over the US.  His spotlight “Shots” featuring LMFAO and Lil-Jon brought the spotlight on Eric D-Lux and the rest was history.

Saturday night / Dada Life – The Swedish DJ duo of Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom both coincidentally met at “the happiest place on Earth” while waiting in-line at a ride.  They formed the group in 2006 as their way to have fun [“the Dada Life”] and be different from the rest of the DJ scene.  Their first track, “Big Time” was released on vinyl and more hits including “Rolling Stones T-shirt”, “White Noise / Red Meat”, and “Happy Violence” followed suit.

The group has broken several Guiness World Records including ones in Chicago for “the world’s largest pillow fight” and another in San Bernardino for “largest gathering of people dressed in bananas”.  Their favorite was the pillow fight as the group describes that night as “happy violence” and “an amazing experience”.  Will they stop breaking world records?  Doubt it.

Bananas and pajamas?  The group’s response – “Whatever is on the internet, it is true.”  The concept of bananas was their way for needing energy when they’re DJing.  And the fans don’t mind wearing banana suits at their live shows.  At their recent show at Hakkasan, there was a showmanship of hardcore fans wearing them.
