Pasadena Cheeseburger Week – Review (Part II)

By SamuraiSyl on January 16th, 2014 | Culture

With a sense of adventure, roaring stomachs and Vegan in tow, we eagerly embarked on our journey through Cheeseburger Week.  For this journey, we chose: The Counter, Green Street Restaurant, and Real Food Daily.

Have you have ever ordered your sushi at a Japanese restaurant from a checklist of options with a miniature pencil? Well, you can expect this adapted style of service with a mix of retro decor at The Counter. Offering a variety of burger patties, from an all Vegan patty to Bison, will satisfy both herbivores and omnivores alike. From the list of selection, our hungry Vegan dressed her burger generously with avocado, crisp romaine lettuce, and grilled onions on a house bun paired with a cold Sapporo brew.  Also, be sure to ask for their Vegan-friendly reference guide.

Another participant in Cheeseburger Week, Green Street Restaurant was established 35 years ago in the downtown district of Pasadena. Offering a delectable Quinoa Burger (vegetarian, not vegan) with smokey and subtle spicy appearances made by the pasilla chilies, pepper jack cheese and chipotle mayo nestled into brioche buns was quite the satiating experience for a curious palate.

Real Food Daily was our next contender. The 100% Vegan Restaurant not only appealed to our burger quest but our sweet tooth as well. Contrary to popular advice, we began the dining ritual with dessert such as the warm Rocky Road Brownie while anticipating their Veggie and Black Bean Real Food Burger complete with sauteed peppers and onions on a warm whole wheat bun.
