Odesza @ Kia Forum

The atmosphere at ‘The Last Goodbye’ tour felt like a PLUR. Nothing more of peace, love, unity, respect.  And the accumulation of more than 10-years of music to bring out a sold-out show this past Friday evening.  Much respect to the group – Harrison Mills (aka Catacombkid) and Clayton Knight (aka BeachesBeaches).  The latest album, The Last Goodbye was released on July 22nd. And after nearly five years after their last album and nearly three years removed from their last live set, they returned back on-stage at the stroke of 9:15PM.

During “Behind the Sun”, an interesting tune/callout to introduce the spectators in the crowds.  And a twist – the ODESZA drumline. As the group has always mentioned on social media that they want to feature them more, they were a refreshing twist to the live show.  The vibe of “Behind the Sun” was a classic Odesza throwback to their prior sounds in the past.

Great highlights to see Charlie Houston on the featured vocals with “Wide Awake” and “iPLayYouListen” tunes.  And Naomi Wild and her vocals on the “Better Now” and Higher Ground” tunes during the show.  Always a bonus to crowds on the GA-floor to experience the full visuals during the show.  During “All My Life”, a person walking in the middle of fields of imaginary flowers and surrounded by statues of persona poses.  And “Hopeful” was a song reminiscent of their past and present.  Both Mills and Knight standing feets apart but faces away. But the drumline provides the bridge to the end of tune.  In the tune “Loyal” the drumline is in full-feature – on-stage and through their stage visuals and their pyrotechnics.  A marvel!

A story cannot be told with songs and tunes.  This group needs visuals to bring the story to live.  A great addition to have the drumline as a bonus to their live set this past Friday night on their first of two consecutive sold-out shows.  And rest assure – the best views are always right at front and center.
