Lightning in a Bottle 2023

By Los Angeles Digest Staff on May 31st, 2023 | Culture, Music

In it’s 20th year of existence – the Lightning in a Bottle festival has grown to enormous proportions. One can visit their favorite artist – whether if it’s in dubstep, electronic or indierock, among others. There a lot of activities to witness at LIB. One can check a cooking class over at the ‘Learning Kitchen’. Or they can take a morning yoga class in subject topics, including Belly Dancing, Contortion Flow, to name a few. The list goes on and on.

As invited guests to this festival, we needed to understand several points of interests on this. Families or groups of friends can attend LIB with options of camping via vehicle or RV. The festival temperatures do swing the favor toward the later option for most. But for the most budget-conscious, smart planning with ideal day-time shading can also be done.

A hybrid of Coachella and Burning Man is one way to describe the vibes at LIB. With the weather blistering in the 90s during the peak hours of the day. But during the night – a sweater is not really needed – just be sure to be near other people dancing or enjoying their night. And you should be good to go. Just be sure to witness the sunrise around 6AM. And to get some good sleep by then.

In terms of fun and amuzement, there is no complaint on the amendities provided. There were ample opportunities to take a dip into the neighboring lake with your inflatable in the heat. Just be sure to tread lightly on the swimming. Or one can definitely find someone trailing around the venue with their e-bike or scooter. Of course, walking was most common during LIB.

As our group participated in several yoga sessions during LIB, we had the enjoyment to see the bright and smiling faces of other attendees during the sessions. We think the teachers were more excited than us – mentally and emotionally. As the vibes of the LIB festival can bring the vibes that are not regularly seen from Coachella or from Burning Man – it’s for one person’s imagination to describe what else can happen at LIB.

In terms of music, we highly recommend anyone to check any of their stages as music genre ranging greatly. For their premiere stage, called ‘Lightning’ – this stage was set for their seletion of pop, indie-rock, or mainstream electronic musical acts. Some included – Rezz, Caribou, Phantogram, to name a few. And at their most famous stage, the ‘Woogie’, this stage sets the premise of LIB – groups of tandem-colored circular shapes above the stage. And their premiere of underground trance/house musical acts, some including Diplo, Lee Burbridge, among others.

In total, the attendance was close to 20,000 during the five-day festivities at LIB. As this is our first-time at LIB, the expectations were set high. Weather conditions are what they are. One can be rest assured that safety was a priority at LIB. It was an enjoyment to see children also in-attendance at these festivities.
