Aubrey & The Three Migos @ The Forum

By Carlin Nguyen on October 17th, 2018 | Music

The concert co-headlined by the Canadian rapper Drake with Atlanta hip-hop group Migo made their first concert stop at The Forum on Tuesday night after going at Staples Center for three consecutive soldout shows over the weekend. To no surprise, their upcoming shows at The Forum were also soldout – each show going 17,500-plus in attendance.

What was unique was not the artists who played. Nor the cameo guest artists that showed up.  The stage had its own conversation. And anything like that could of been (since 2016’s Kanye West Saint Pablo tour). Yet simple in size and shape. But the technical grasp of the eye-popping stage. Take a page from Kanye West’s “anti-stage” – every view in the stadium had the same optimal viewpoint to the artist.

Drake is no ordinary artist. He knows how to treat every live show as his own. And with many famous cuts from his studio albums – Scorpions to Thank Me Later, there were a lot to choose from for his two-hour long set. And the audience seemed unfazed by it all.

And a lot of entertainment to pass through. A floating Ferrari was seen roaming around the concert deck. Real fire and animated fire came through during the Migos set.  And when Drake came up, pyrotechnics with some fireworks were the mainstay. Drake performed many cuts from his five album studios. Some included – “In My Feelings”, “Nice For What”, “Headlines”, among others. And some were performed with Migos such as – “Walk it Talk It” and “Trophies.”

A natural born actor from his starting role on Degrassi to the live stage as Drake – he knows how to articulate a large crowd and to cater to their liking. While it was pleasing to see Drake keep the momentum during the first night in Inglewood, the shift in atmosphere felt different when Drake took a momentarily break during his set. And then to see Migos come up onstage and to perform a song or two. While it’s understandable – many again were moshing it in the GA area while others were seated and gazed over the pretty stage.
